One suggestion I'd offer is that anyone who feels that the trolls are creating a hostile situation here stop contributing to the archive. No more donations. No more uploads. And we should take down any uploads that we've made.

The IA staff can't pretend that they aren't aware of the situation. If they don't want to do anything about it, hitting them in their wallets might make them act responsibly.

I have uploaded many files to the Internet Archive using another persona. These are not Walmark DVD rips or Utoob ripoffs. They are digital conversions of historic materials that have no other known existing copies available to the public. I would estimate the process took about two years of free time to digitize.
Although the files are appreciated by a small group, the download counts on the files I uploaded has surpassed by thousands any number I ever expected to reach. And I have received thanks for my files from several people whom have made much larger contributions to the public information than my efforts.
Sometimes these files are reviewed by someone who does not have the cultural context or subject knowledge to accurately review them. I find those are usually humorous in a 'poor sap' way. Like a DJ who thinks the Herman's Hermits wrote 'Mother-In Law". I cannot imagine the thought process that would be required for me to threaten to remove the files due to those comments.

By the way, what have you put up on here that's so cool?

Quite honestly, I don't give trolls a second thought these days. I don't respond to them at all anymore -- even if they say something positive from time to time.

Don't respond to them. Don't talk to them. Don't even talk about them. Either they go away or they don't.

You should take your own advice.

You have responded by stating you won't respond.

You have given the subject at hand not only a second thought, but many more.

The psychology of internet forum interactions is fascinating.

Labeling a statement you don't agree with as "trolling" is the response of a petulant child who is trying to enhance their feeling of negative self-worth.

I could expand a great deal on the subject but I'm pressed for time at the moment.

Perhaps you need to get away from your computer for awhile.

You really need to get out more.

I'm going on a hike today.

How about you?
